Torrent Group Acquires a 67% Stake in Gujarat Titans
The 18th season of the IPL will start on March 21. Gujarat Titans (GT) will likely play in the tournament already under new owners. The Torrent Group conglomerate is set to acquire a 67% controlling stake in GT. It is currently only awaiting approval from the IPL governing council. So, the official information will have to wait. But if all the insiders are accurate, this is sensational news for Indian cricket.

Long-awaited Event
Torrent Group is valued at nearly INR 41,000 crore (information from the conglomerate’s official website) and is among the leading multinational companies in India. It had previously tried to acquire an IPL franchise and failed both times. The conglomerate first offered INR 4653 crore for Ahmedabad in 2021 and then INR 4356 crore for Lucknow. There were also attempts to acquire one of the Women’s Premier League squads in 2023, but these proved futile. However, the long-awaited event for the Torrent Group has finally happened. Fans should wait until all the paperwork is finalized to hear it officially.
High Goals for Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans was established in 2021 and acquired by CVC Capital Partners for 5,625 crore. In their debut season, they became IPL champions. In 2023, the Titans reached the decisive phase again but failed to win the title. In 2024, they finished eighth.
That said, GT has a bright future. The team has a fantastic Modi Stadium that can hold over 100,000 people. It is the most spacious cricket stadium in the entire world. The team has a strong roster, with Indian Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, and Englishman Jos Buttler standing out. So, the Titans will try to regain the title with new owners in the upcoming IPL season. Apart from them, nine other franchises will play in it. These include champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
