Rajkot will host the third clash of the five-match T20I series between India and England on Tuesday, January 28. However, the Three Lions’ coaching staff has decided not to make any changes to the playing XI.

England Stick with Same XI for Crucial 3rd T20I vs India

Coaches Bet on Stability

The English cricketers who played in the second match are expected to take to the turf at the Niranjan Shah Stadium on Tuesday:

  • Jofra Archer;
  • Gus Atkinson;
  • Harry Brook;
  • Jos Buttler (C);
  • Ben Duckett;
  • Liam Livingstone;
  • Jamie Overton;
  • Adil Rashid;
  • Phil Salt (WK);
  • Jamie Smith;
  • Mark Wood.

Thus, Jamie Smith retained his place in the lineup. He made his debut for the Three Lions in the five-match series in the second match, having to replace Jacob Bethell, who was ill. Another change was the inclusion of Brydon Carse in the roster. He had an impressive game, scoring 31 off 17 before taking 3-29. The player’s actions significantly impacted the game and almost led to India’s first defeat.

The England team will rely on its top bowlers, including Mark Wood and Jofra Archer, for the third match.

A Packed Calendar

Besides the three remaining T20I matches, India and England will also play three ODI matches. Such a busy calendar is necessary for India as the team is seriously gearing up for a strong showing at the Champions Trophy 2025. Matches against a strong opponent like the Three Lions allow the Indians to work on teamwork and maximize their preparation for the much-awaited tournament.
