BCCI Bans IPL Clubs from Using Venues for Practice and Events
State associations have received guidelines from the BCCI regarding the use of Indian Premier League venues before the new season. In essence, the venues will be banned for almost any type of activity, from local games to IPL teams’ training.

Keeping the Pitches in Excellent Condition
The BCCI directive states that the main square and outfield are available for Ranji Trophy playoff matches. However, they cannot be used for the Legends League, celebrity cricket events, or local games. Additionally, IPL clubs cannot hold training sessions at these venues. These measures are intended to ensure that the pitches are as ready as possible for the upcoming IPL season, which begins on March 24.
Teams’ Plans to Be Disrupted?
Of the venues used for Indian Premier League clashes, only Eden Gardens in Kolkata is occupied. It is one of the four cities hosting the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals. The semifinals and final will still take place in the tournament, and some IPL venues may be utilized to host them. Consequently, the BCCI has sent out a precautionary warning to all involved in advance.
The directive could disrupt the preparation plans of some clubs for the IPL season. They had intended to use these venues for training. So, one wonders how the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), for instance, will react to the BCCI directive, given that there are no training grounds outside Wankhede.
The 18th season of the IPL will run from March 21 to May 25. It will feature 10 teams and 74 matches. The opening ceremony and final will be held in Kolkata at the stadium of local team KKR, which became champions of the previous league season.
