Chennai Super Kings

Thanks to the IPL rule that allows an Indian player who hasn’t played international cricket for five years to be considered an uncapped player, the team has retained MS Dhoni. At a cost of only ₹4 crore from the Chennai Super Kings’ purse. The purse remaining is ₹55 crore. RTM options at auction: one player.

Mumbai Indians

Jasprit Bumrah has been Mumbai Indians’ highest paid retainer for the first time, and Hardik has been appointed MI’s IPL 2025 captain. Retaining their top Indian players within the ₹75 crore budget was Mumbai Indians’ biggest difficulty, but they were able to do so and maintain their core group going into the IPL 2025 mega auction. Delhi Capitals

Unless they purchase him back at auction and declare him a captain, which seems doubtful, DC will need a new captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League since they did not keep Rishabh Pant. The purse remaining is ₹73 crore. RTM options at auction: two players.

Punjab Kings

The team has the biggest auction amount because they have kept the fewest athletes – two, both uncapped. For the 2025 IPL, they will need a new captain as well as essentially a whole team. The purse remaining is ₹110.5 crore. RTM options at auction: four players.

Gujarat Titans

With Mohammed Shami out for an extended amount of time due to injury, Gujarat Titans’ five remaining players are all slow bowlers. The purse remaining is ₹69 crore. RTM options at auction: one player.

Rajasthan Royals

With only one bowler and five batters retained, the Rajasthan Royals have adopted a batting-heavy strategy. They are one of just two teams (KKR is the other) that can keep up to six players. With a retention price tag of ₹14 crore, Jurel receives a huge boost. The purse remaining is ₹41 crore. RTM options at auction: none.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Rinku Singh has become Kolkata Knight Riders’ top retention for the first time, and Russell came in as a late confirmation. The most costly player in the Indian Premier League history, Mitchell Starc, who bowled game-winning stints in Qualifier 1 and the final last year, and their title-winning skipper, Shreyas Iyer, have been let go. Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Only three players have been retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which is the second-lowest number of any team behind Punjab Kings. Provided that Virat Kohli is the top retainer, it’s unclear if he would rejoin as captain. The purse remaining is ₹83 crore. RTM options at auction: three players.

Lucknow Super Giants

After losing KL Rahul, Lucknow Super Giants will have to select a new captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League. With a retention fee of ₹23 crore, Nicholas Pooran is the second most costly player after Kohli. The purse remaining is ₹69 crore. RTM options at auction: one player.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

At ₹23 crore, Heinrich Klaasen is the most expensive player kept, more than Virat Kohli and Nicholas Pooran, who are both paid ₹21 crore. Out of the 10 teams, SRH has kept the most foreign players – three. From South Africa and Australia. The purse remaining is ₹45 crore. RTM options at auction: one uncapped player.

Where and When Is the IPL 2025 Auction Taking Place?

On November 24 and 25, the Indian Premier League 2025 auction will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This is only the second time it has been held abroad. The first was in Dubai in 2024.

On November 24, the two-day auction is set to start at 13:00 local time (15:30 IST). The third & fourth days of the Australia vs. India Test in Perth this year will coincide with the IPL 2025 auction.
